Some softbill species is also a good talker. Birds such as mynah and starling is a good talker and some of them may talk better than some parrot! Therefore, sometime you may also need to check out these species before making any decision.
Sometimes it is worth to wait for birds from good source compared to buying the first avaiable bird. In long run the birds that we buy from good source (normally breeder) will make better pets and also will become better family members compared to a birds which is 'wild' or unknown source.
Different species of birds will have different requirement and they will offer different thing to the prospective owner. Birds such as African Grey parrot may able to mimic while most cockatoo is suitable for owner who would like to have birds which is playful and can be cuddle.
